Puppydog eyes; It seems that Dean really is a sucker for them!
Dean gets back from the pizza run with more than just side orders; two big, tough, hardened hunters versus something small, cute and furry ... there's no contest!
There isn't a rating for gut-churning soppiness; you have been warned!
The door opened and Dean stumbled into the room holding pizza boxes.
He irritably shook his rain-soaked hair; "freakin' storm's a bitch!"
Sam's eyes narrowed suspiciously on seeing a defined bulge under Dean's jacket.
"Dude? Something you wanna tell me?"
Unfastening his jacket Dean hesitantly revealed a dishevelled scrap of wet, brown fur cowering under the thick fabric.
Sam's jaw dropped.
Clutching the trembling puppy, Dean flushed slightly; "saw the poor little guy by the road, tied up and left to die," he shrugged sheepishly; "couldn't leave him."
Sam grinned; "well, I guess he'll be useful if we have leftovers tonight!"
The shivering mite burrowed against the rock solid warmth of its rescuer's chest, snuggling into the comforting safety of Dean's reassuring heartbeat.
The brothers stood, staring; mesmerised by the tiny, damp life that Dean had just saved.
"We'll take him to the ASPCA tomorrow," Sam murmured, smiling as he ruffled a little ear, "they'll find someone who'll give him the life he deserves."
Dean nodded silently, gnawing on his lower lip as he looked down into liquid eyes which gazed back up at him.
He looked back up at Sam, face alight with hope.
"Maybe Rumsfeldt wants a friend?"

Sam gets back from the pizza run a little earlier than expected ...
Congratulating himself on finding a decent takeout so easily in this remote one-horse burg, Sam juggled the pizzas as he unlocked the door. Stepping into the room, he hesitated on hearing a brief scuffle and the TV being turned off.
Dean greeted him awkwardly, wide-eyed guilt pasted across his tight-lipped face.
Sam froze, frowning in concern; "dude, are you ... CRYING?"
"No!" Dean snuffled indignantly, palming wet cheeks.
Sam lunged for the remote and turned on the TV.
