Dean dug through the bag with his and Sammy' s clothes, crowing in victory when he found the olive drab khakis he'd been getting ready to hand down to his kid brother anyway. He tossed them at Sam and continued his search.

Dad was in an uncharacteristically good mood for this time of year. He told Dean if he could scrape together costumes, he could take Sam trick or treating.

He tore a long strip off an old, red rag, mussed Sammy's unruly hair further, and tied it around his head. Sam's white undershirt completed the ensemble.

"You're all set, Rambo!"

"What about you, Dean?" Sam asked.

Before he could answer, their dad walked in and chuckled. "Look at that! Rambo, right?"

Dean nodded, happy the costume was recognizable.

"What about you?" Sam asked again.

Dean looked down at the clothes he was wearing: a plaid flannel over a tee shirt and jeans. His father was wearing almost exactly the same thing.

"I'm a hunter," he declared. He didn't add "like you," but he was pretty sure his father knew.

Dad made a strange face for just a second before he said, "A deal's a deal. Remember-"

"I know. Look out for Sam."

"Have fun, you two."

"Yes, sir!" they chorused.
